PostSubject: What to buy?   Sun Mar 02, 2008 10:55 am

I have come into some money ( great Aunt passed away ) and want to splash the cash on a new car. Thinking of the new Camry, Accord, A6 or Passat! I don't want to spend over 2 million baht, any other ideas? Serious replies please. Thank you

In my book it would be the Accord hands down. I've always been a Honda fan and I think the new model looks super slick. Although Hondas don't retain resale value as well as a Toyota would, I wouldn't care.

The Camrys are really nice inside but they look like grandpa-mobiles.

And, here in LoS Audi and VW are over-priced IMO.

Honda is probably the safest bet, good solid engine and plenty of places to get them serviced should you have any problems.
Hondas are probably easiest to sell on when it starts to get tired too, every man and his dog has either got a pickup or a honda.

Mrs Sausage Sandwich has had 2 cars, both Hondas (1 accord and 1 civic).

She pretty much destroyed the accord by thrashing the engine when there was no water in it (and she knows how to thrash a car, her driving scares me sometimes), yet she had no problem selling it for the full asking price.

Her civic was bought new and any problems she has just taken it to honda service and its been sorted onder warranty. The car is ace to drive and runs great (despite her crashing it twice already!). My only moan with them is the positioning (and width) of the pillars each side of the windscreen. Not so bad when turning left, but when going round sharp right hand turns they completely block your vision. This new civic is like driving on rails though, really responsive.

2nd choice would be Toyota purely on the basis of a top gear program I saw where they bought the cheapest 2nd hand cars and run them till they died. The toyota just kept going.

Audi and VW, although probably reliable, will probably be most expensive to run and hardest to sell.... probably (thats probably a few too many probably's). Aint noticed any Audi's here and the only VW's I've noticed have been really old beatles and campers - apparently even they are very expensive to buy.

The accord is sexy from the outside BUT the inside is disappointing! The centre control looks like a cockpit of a 747 with all those buttons. Will test drive it tomorrow and let you know.

I'd go for the Camry...I know the Accord seems more popular but, as far as I'm concerned, Toyotas are more reliable cars...There's not much in it though..
I suggest you drive both cars and decide which one feels more comfortable....
Also, isn't the Camry cheaper?

I would look at the A6 or passat before the Accord or Camry!! European cars are much better built with better driving comfort!! my pinch of salt Uh

^ But what about the overall cost of ownership? Certainly parts and labor are gonna be exorbitantly overpriced!

Daren, you will find that parts are similar price for a VW or Honda, maybe VW being a little more expensive. As for labour, well that is the same all over Thailand CHEAP!!
Only downside with European cars is that there isn't a dealership in Nakhon and Hat Yai would be the closest place, not good when you have a big problem.
I have a VW and my next car will be a another VW. IMO they are best value for money Mooner

Both the Camry and Accord hold their value much better than the European cars!! Thai's have a low opinon of Europeans that aren't a MERC or BMW !! their loss Reflection

At the end of the day, you have to live with it, BUY THE ONE THAT YOU WANT! :D

I did listen to some friends a few years ago and did not buy the car that I wanted, I regret that even today.

I did buy a nice good pickup that I liked but did not keep for MANY different reasons....

Want another big bike but the wife will only say yes if I get 4 signatures - my parents and my kids ... and there's zero chance of that.

Crutches

Bye bye

I 3rd that, 2 wheel Hondas are brill, and strangely enough..... the only ones I never wrote off......... weird.

VTR, why don't you adopt 4 of us as your "Thai" parents and kids and we will gladly give you the 4 signatures you require......... for a fee of course :beachy:

I certainly wear the trousers in my house ... when I'm allowed. The thing is that she doesn't want to be standing next to my tombstone when I am at such a young age. She's only lookin' out for me.

Bye bye RIP
